Here I Am

Here I Am, These songs are about life and death, living life to it's fullest and seeing the beauty in it all.
I bare my soul on this album, and sing about things I'm deeply feeling. I also pay tribute to my roots with 'Ode to Cape Breton', and 'Donald and Angus' is about my Scottish heritage.

Bradford Smith, Wendy Sorensen and Tim Mead co-wrote some of these songs with me. Released in 2000.

Songs:

Here I Am, I wrote this almost a year after mom died, with the realization that I'm stronger and more at peace than I ever was before.

Living In Love, I wrote this for Mother's Day that year. Definitely a tribute of my love to my husband Joe, and the kids.

Clear Sky, Bradford Smith had this going way before I jumped in there with a lyrical melody line. I love singing it, it clears my mind!

Don't Be Afraid, I wrote this with Tim Mead right before I went into the hospital for my second hip surgery. I love Tim's voice so much, when I heard him sing, it was very easy to imagine him being the voice of the presence, that I feel/hear during my meditations.

Seize The Day, This was originally recorded (and written) by a Canadian artist, Carolyn Arends. It was my Mom's favorite song on the radio in her final months. I told her I would record on my next album and dedicate it to her. So…. here it is Mom!

Thank the Holy Spirit, This one almost hit the trash! I find that hard to believe now. Brad rescued it, slowed the tempo down, and definitely jazzed it up!

Affirmation of Life, I wrote this affirmation/song while I was taking care of Mom and out for a walk one afternoon. It was very powerful, it got me through some tough times.

Ode To Cape Breton, This was originally a poem that I found in a book "Folk and Folklore of Cape Breton Island" (where I was born and raised) by my grandfather Dan A. MacDonald. He was always very interested in preserving the Scottish heritage and tracing and recording our roots. Years later, his son and my uncle, Ken MacDonald made a beautiful family tree, which is still kept up to date.

Donald and Angus, These are the two brothers that came over from Scotland in the late 1700's. Every other year we have a big Clan Donald and Angus gathering on the beautiful Cape Breton shores.

The Way, I call it The Ultimate Love Song.

Changes, I've been through a lot in this life time. I've learned if you look for the good in the situation, you will always find it.

Where are you? Wendy Sorensen and I wrote this one rainy afternoon, while having a cup of coffee in my kitchen. Wendy comes from the East Coast, as well. We both were missing the ocean, so we made that connection through this song.

There Is A Season, That year, a house that normally puts on a lot of Christmas lights, didn't put any. I wondered if maybe someone was ill, or had died or something. It made me realize it's a nice way to say to your neighbors and the world "We're okay, and there is peace in our home". That's how the song started.

Lost In the Wonder , The death of my Mom….the birth of my daughter. I truly am lost in the wonder.

Lyrics

HERE I AM

You could call it starting over
When you find yourself alone
The one you counted on
The one you always saw as strong
Now is gone

And here I am, I'm on my own
Yet I have more love around me than I've ever known
And the people is the pictures, the parents of my birth
The king and queen that brought me here to walk upon the earth
Well I guess this is where I get off…….and here I am

I don't see things as so simple
They are complex to the end
How'd I start out there
How'd I end up here
With all the perfect players as my friends

And I see now every second of every minute
Were necessary circumstances to be
To form just who I am
For there is no mistake in me
I was meant to be

And here I am, I'm on my own
Yet I'm feeling stronger than I've every known
And every new moment that opens in my life
Shows me I can be a songstress, a mother, and a wife
And I can call it all home…….and here I am

There's an angel watching over me

And here I am, I'm on my own
And I feel more peaceful than I've ever known
And every new person I meet along the path
Brings to me just what I need before I have to ask
And it's like nothing I've ever known……….and here I am

LIVING IN LOVE

When the baby's crying unexplainably
But I know exactly what she needs
That's when I'm in love
When the kids are screamin like it has so end
And I gently show them how to be a friend
That's when I'm in love

Living in love in this world
Is where my soul wants to be
A mother of hope
And the daughter of faith in what's to be
What you give from the heart
You will reap in return
And Living in love is the perfect place to learn

When I think I have no more to give
Then a friend calls in need
And my strength rushes in
That's when I'm in love
When I could clean the house
Or put food on the shelf
But I take some time out for myself
That's when I'm in love

Living in love in this world
Is where my soul wants to be
A mother of hope
And the daughter of faith in what's to be
What you give from the heart

You will reap in return
And living in love is the perfect place to learn

When it's time for bed, and I just wanna sleep
But I pray for all the people in need
That's when I'm in love
When I look at the man lying next to me
And think of the love he gives unselfishly
that's when I'm in love

Affirmation of Life

I will wake each day knowing this is my tomorrow
I will breathe each breath living only for today
And as my day unfolds I live only in the moment
Knowing that right now is all there is
And I thank you God

In times of my greatest insight
I can see all I can be
And I'm not afraid to be myself for everyone to see
But then through circumstances
I get caught up in the game
And I lose the vision of my soul
And find the people and things to blame

But there seems to be a pattern
And I recognize its roots
And as we stake our claim on life
We are speaking our own truth
So I hold this vision of me
Knowing here in mind it stays
And I sing these words out loud and clearly
So they'll never go away..

LOST IN THE WONDER

Where does life come from?
Where does it start?
To start from a seed, and end up with a heart
It rides on a wind of love and what is real
It comes from the father and returns to the field

The first time when a mother
Holds her newborn to her breast
A bond begins to form
That words cannot express
Lovingly supplying, she lets nature takes it course
It comes from the mother and returns to the source

And I'm lost in the wonder, the wonder of it all
Lost in the wonder, the wonder of it all

And each soul holds the secret of love within our heart
We look at each other and see the common spark
Turning, returning, the flow of love goes round
It comes from within us and heals without a sound

And I'm lost in the wonder, the wonder of it all
Lost in the wonder, the wonder of it all
Lost in the wonder , the wonder of it all

It comes from the mother and returns to the source

Living and dying the miracle is real
It comes from the father and returns to the field
And I'm lost in the wonder , the wonder of it all.
